Welcome to my website. As lecturer in TCU's English Department, a fifth-year PhD candidate, and an avid lifestyle journalist, I've got a lot to share. I've exercised some restraint by picking and choosing what to highlight on these pages, but if you want to dig deeper, keep clicking around or scroll through my most recently updated curriculum vitae.
In my doctoral studies, I am in the early stages of writing my dissertation: a qualitative research project investigating the relationship between physical activity and writing activity in advanced writers. My coursework at TCU supported my study of composition and rhetorical theory while pursuing certificates in New Media Writing Studies and Women and Gender Studies. Before studying at TCU, I earned my master’s in Rhetoric, Composition, and Professional Communication (RCPC) at Iowa State University. Throughout my career, my research interests have pertained to the mind-body connection in writing, writing program administration, women’s writing and rhetoric, or new media and multimodal teaching.
When I'm not working at the New Media Writing Studio, I'm writing reviews for local magazines and newspapers. Since moving to Texas in 2013, I've written for The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Indulge, K Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, and GuideLive. Currently, I write theatre reviews for The Fort Worth Weekly and parenting articles for the Tanglewood Moms Blog.
Although I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri–a city I love dearly because my ancestors founded it in 1764–I’ve been fortunate enough to move around a lot. I’ve lived and written for papers in a number of cities, including Kansas City and Des Moines, and I’ve lived in a number of places, too. In Washington D.C. I studied politics and interned for The Honorable Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II, whereas in Uppsala, Sweden I studied Scandinavian history, art, and culture. As a Global Outlooks Institute Fellow, I've been fortunate enough to receive funding for two trips abroad to study international higher education leadership and policy in The United Kingdom, Belgium, and Germany. Traveling and learning about other cultures is one of my great passions; I take trips as often as I can.
When I’m not traveling, I’m running outdoors, studying yoga, reading voraciously, experimenting with healthy baking, and pursuing my lifelong goal of centenarian status. Learn more about my professional work in this portfolio or find me on social media by visiting my About.me page.
